The author spends approx 3 months trying to survive while working minimum wage jobs. She spends time in Florida, Minnesota, and Maine working and trying to find suitable housing. What she learned will come as no surprise. It is not possible to have housing, food, transportation, and child care by working one minimum wage job. The author found that most people who are trying to survive share rooms and beds, sleep in their cars, work multiple jobs, and survive on a day-to-day basis.
This is a highly readable, if sometimes preachy, book which brings up many issues while unfortunately offering no answers to the plight of the working poor. I do applaud her efforts.
