I would have liked to have given this 4 stars but I thought it was a little gimmicky. I hated the "commercial breaks", and the footnotes were also distracting. Both these things interupted the rhythm of the novel. Sure the author was clever. It seemed like she had a million extra gags she wanted to include and this is how she fit them in. I enjoyed the book so much more once I stopped reading these. I loved these girls; they were spunky and positive. I particularly liked Taylor and felt sad when she had her break with reality. Loved the team names. Definitely want to convince my team to be "Sparkle Ponies" next time I play trivia. I was pleasantly surprised at how plucky they all were. Having no experience with pageants, I don't really know, but I do believe that it's got to be hard work and you probably do pick up some important life skills working the pageant circuit. This is all about Girl Power and should be required reading for all teen girls. (I didn't see this on any summer reading lists...a shame)
