I have a friend who won't read any trilogies until all three books have been published. While I definitely don't have her patience, I can see where she 's comIng from. I read the first book in this trilogy back in 2011. Since then I've probably read at least 150 books. Plus my mind is like a sieve. Not really good at retaining info like plot and characters. So for the first chunk of this story, I was struggling to remember what happened in book 1. Once it all came back to me, I was as drawn in to this book as I was with the first.
Taylor creates an unbelievably vivid world. I had no problem envisioning the characters and the setting. At the same time, this story was very different from Book 1. Where that focused on the romance between Karou and Akiva, in this book they are at odds after Akiva's role in the destruction of Loramendi. Their stories are followed separately as they each deal with the aftermath of what is happening in their world. Each suffers as they are unwittingly used as pawns to forward their side'sposition in the war between seraphim and chimaera. As usual, Taylor does a great job of building toward a crescendo. Plenty of plot twists. Also many of the minor characters have nicely developed roles.
Now to wait for the final book In the trilogy. I heard something about 2014! Total bummer.
