I'm sorry to say that I just didn't love this book. Going into it, I didn't realize that it was first in a new series. There is a lot of backstory on a lot of different characters. It was too much for me. I kept thinking (and hoping) that it was all going to come together and the diviners were going to fight the evil Naughty John, who by the way, is a great creepy bad guy. I was really disappointed when that didn't happen.
I get that sometimes it's important for a character to face their demons on their own in order to come out stronger, but Evie's already a strong woman. If anything needs fixing for Evie, it's her relationship with her mother. But that's her mother's problem, not Evie's.
So, I'm really hoping that in the next book, all the little story lines come together and we get to see the forces of good fighting against the forces of evil. If Bray drags out the whole "Project Buffalo" subplot or Jericho's story for a third book, I am going to be one unhappy camper.
On a final note, I was not happy with Evie's choice of a romantic partner. Sam is way more fun than Jericho!
