Two people help to heal each other's life after each has suffered a major trauma. Maria's husband is leaving her for his very young, pregnant girlfriend. His real estate business has gone bust and the family is about to lose everything, including their home on Tara Road. Marilyn, across the ocean, in Connecticut has not recovered from the death of her teenage son in a car accident. The two women decide to switch houses for the summer and unknowingly go about helping to heal each other lives. Maria finds herself a job as a caterer and embarks on a lifelong dream. Marilyn is enchanted with Maria's friends and family, who never leave her alone. She's able to talk to strangers about her son, where she could nevertalk to her own husband.
