ok, I'm only giving this three stars because most of the time when I was reading it, I had no idea what was going on. Totally my own fault as I started this series with the thirteenth book. Oops. As a result, I missed all the world-building, all the character development. It made my head hurt. I'd constantly be thinking
why doesn't he just turn invisible? or
hey, I thought she couldn't enter a human body without permission? and other stuff like that. I couldn't keep track of the plot. Frustrating. So, why did I read this through to the end ???? because I really liked Harry Dresden. He's snarky, he's loyal, he likes to read. Plus, he quotes Pink Floyd, the Byrds, and Buckeroo Bonzai, to name a few. What's not to like? I did learn that a quote both Harry and I attributed to Buckeroo Bonzai was in fact first stated by Confucius ! Who knew ? So,anyway, I'd be reading along with my head about to explode trying to make things make sense and then Harry woulld let fly some bon mot and I just kept going.
So, not a bad book on it's own, but I bet I would've liked this much more if I'd started from the beginning. Huh, start at the beginning. Is that more Confucius ?
