Anya's Ghost - Vera Brosgol Anya is a Russian-born teenage girl transplanted to New England. She lives with her mother and brother and attends private school. Anya wants more than anything to fit in, to escape her russian heritage. She falls down an old well, where she comes across the ghost of a teen girl who died in 1918, after falling down this same well. Anya is discovered and the ghost is set free from the well, too, when Anya takes along a small bone of the girl. The girl cannot be separated from her bones, which explains why she hasn't surfaced before now. Anya's life is initially improved though her relationship with her ghostly friend but things soon spiral out of control. Anya learns the value of her life, what a true friend is, and she figures out that maybe others' lives arent as enviable as she had thought. Nice message, I think this would work for a younger audience.
